Winsetupfromusb instructions for use. Instructions for using WinSetupFromUSB - Full description. Additional options for writing a bootable USB flash drive

Greetings to all! Once I wrote about the WinSetupFromUSB program, where the goal was to create a bootable USB flash drive with the Windows 7 operating system. This utility is very useful, and can create both a USB flash drive with one OS and a multiboot one with several images of different systems. The other day on the website of the developer of this amazing program, a fresh version -1-6-beta2 appeared, which is able to work more stably with the ISO-image of Windows 10. Now you can create a bootable USB flash drive Windows 10 for subsequent installation on MBR and GPT disks.

If you create a bootable USB flash drive with several operating systems, including Windows 10, using this version, then there should be no problems, which cannot be said for previous releases of WinSetupFromUSB. However, today we will create a bootable USB flash drive with one Windows 10 operating system, which will work on computers with both MBR (BIOS) and GPT (UEFI). As a result, it will turn out, so to speak, a universal bootable USB flash drive.

Create a bootable Windows 10 USB stick

First, we need to download the program from the office. site http://www.winsetupfromusb.com/downloads/

If you have a 64-bit system, then you need to run the WinSetupFromUSB_1-6_x64.exe file. I have already described.

This is what the program looks like,

When the program window has opened, here we will make the following settings:
- check the box on Auto format it with FBinst and select FAT32;
- now put a checkbox next to Vista / 7/8 / Server 2008/2012 based ISO and press the button next to it, after which you will need to specify the path to the Windows 10 OS image (if you do not know where to download Windows 10, then read).

The creation of bootable flash drives today is a very demanded task, therefore, the instructions for use, the program that best helps in solving this problem, will be very relevant.

Interestingly, WinSetupFromUSB has other similar functions, but we will look at all of them in the instructions.

The use of this program begins with its download and this point should be given a little attention.

Where can I download

Advice: Shouldn't be looking forWinSetupFromUSBin any search engines!

The fact is that this program can be found on our website.

If you download from other sites, then a problem may arise, namely, the majority of sites post already "supplemented" programs.

And they are supplemented with all kinds of advertising and malware, up to dangerous viruses such as a Trojan. And there are situations, as shown in Figure 1.

As you can see, here on the official website a button for downloading the program is shown in a red frame. But special attention should be paid to what is written next to "Free Download".

And it says "version 1.0 beta". This means that an old version is uploaded on this site. After version 1.0, which was released in 2013, version 1.4 was released in 2015.

As of today, the official website has version 1.6.

By the way, you should download it from the site winsetupfromusb.com. Downloading it from there is pretty simple. To do this, you need to do the following:

  • Go to the site winsetupfromusb.com.
  • Go to the "Downloads" tab, which is highlighted in Figure 2.

Scroll a little (scroll the mouse wheel) the page down and click on the inscription "WinSetupFromUSB 1.6.exe", which is also highlighted in Figure 3.

Note: Usually on this page the tab with the latest version of the program is already open. But if it is closed (the page will look as shown in Figure 4), you should click on the "+" sign (highlighted in the same figure), after which the tab will open and the link will become visible.

  • After that, the user will be taken to the download page. There you need to click on one big button "Download".

Installation and launch

After the program has been downloaded, of course, you need to open it. To do this, simply run the downloaded file. It will look like the one shown in picture # 6.

As you can see, the installation file is an archived image of the program in question. After launching, we are convinced of this - we see the window shown in Figure 7.

In this window, you need to select where the real WinSetupFromUSB file will be unpacked. By default, there will be a folder in which the downloaded file is located.

To select another location, it is necessary to click on the button shown in Figure 7 with a red frame. After that, a window will appear, highlighted with a green frame in the same figure.

There, in fact, you should choose where to unpack the executable file WinSetupFromUSB and click the "OK" button. She's so alone there.

After that, press the button "Extract", that is, "Unpack", highlighted in blue. Next, we will see the unpacking process visually.

This window is also shown in Figure 8.

This window makes it possible to pause the process at any time (the corresponding button is highlighted in green in Figure 8), to return everything to its original state (the button in the red frame) or to quit altogether (the button in the blue frame).

Now in the place of the storage of our computer, which we indicated, we find a folder called "WinSetupFromUSB-1-6". It will look something like the one shown in Figure # 9.

Interestingly, this folder will not necessarily be the first in the list, even if sorted by creation date. So don't be surprised if you don't notice it right away.

This phenomenon is especially common in Windows 7. The contents of this folder are shown in Figure 10.

As you can see, there is a version for 32-bit versions of Windows (underlined in Figure 10 in red) and for 64-bit (underlined in blue).

Accordingly, to run the program in question, you must run the program according to your version of the operating system.

Using the program

After that, the most important thing begins. At first, everything looks as shown in Figure 11.

There are five main fields here:

  1. USB flash drive selection field;
  2. Additional utilities;
  3. The field for selecting the operating system that will be on the flash drive;
  4. Additional options;
  5. Process options (progress bar and buttons "Start" and "Exit").

The main task of this program is to create a bootable USB flash drive. Therefore, you should describe at the very beginning how this process takes place.

Creating a bootable USB drive

To complete this task, run WinSetupFromUSB and do the following:

  • Insert the USB flash drive into the computer. After that, it will automatically be displayed in the window underlined in figure 12 with a red line.
If it still does not appear, you should click on the "Refresh" button, that is, "Refresh", because, quite possibly, the program will not be able to immediately find the drive.

  • Now we need to choose which operating system we will write to the USB flash drive. To do this, put a tick in front of the OS that we will record. After that, click on the select button, which is shown in figure 13 in orange.
A window with a green border opens. In it, we select the ISO image of the system that we are going to write to the USB flash drive.

  • After that, all that remains is to press the "GO" button, which is located in the area numbered 5 in Figure 11. Next, the recording process will begin.

As for additional functions, there are quite a few of them here. The main ones are shown in the area numbered 4 in Figure 11. They relate directly to the recording process.

For example, the "Advanced options" button is responsible for advanced options.

If you put a tick in front of the corresponding inscription, the window shown in Figure 14 will appear.

These are all specialized functions that relate to a particular operating system. More information about them can be found in the descriptions for these operating systems.

If you don't know what each of them means, it is best not to touch all of these functions.

If you put a tick in front of the inscription "Show Log". This is a simple function to show each step of the recording process. Very useful in cases where some kind of error occurs.

Finally, the "Test in QEMU" checkbox is responsible for the function of special testing of the flash drive, but this is a very risky function that can erase all data from the drive.

In general, it is better not to touch it at all.

Additional functions

As mentioned above, WinSetupFromUSB has a number of additional utilities. You can find them in the area indicated by the number 2 in Figure 11.

For example, there is a very useful utility called "BOOTICE". It looks like the one shown in Figure 16.

BOOTICE is responsible for converting or returning the MBR (Master Boot Record) and PBR (Boot Code) on a USB flash drive.

This program makes it possible to put Grub4DOS in MBR or BOOTMGR in PBR and so on.

Again, if you do not know why all this is needed and in general what it is, then it is better not to touch BOOTICE. All of these features are very useful though.

Using this utility is very simple - to do this, select the appropriate drive and press the desired button.

Simply put, it is designed to format flash drives, but not in the usual way, but using a special structure.

In particular, it is often used to make a USB-ZIP flash drive from a USB-HDD.

Working with this utility is quite complicated, but if you already got to it, then, for sure, you should know which buttons do what.

Finally, the last utility in this section is called RMPrepUSB. It performs all the functions of the above two utilities and much more.

Plus, it has a very user-friendly interface. The most important thing is that there is Russian here.

It can be selected by changing the options in the box highlighted in green in Figure 18.

It is also very convenient that when you hover the mouse cursor over each function, its description appears in the window highlighted in yellow.

By the way, it is short here, but very understandable.

In general, all this can and should be used. And it will be very easy to understand how to use them.

A clear instruction on how to use this program is shown in the video below.

How to create a bootable USB drive - WinSetupFromUSB

Instructions for using WinSetupFromUSB - Full description

Good day!

Quite a lot of questions arise when creating bootable USB drives (well, in general, in the space around this topic 👀).

Especially now, when there are more and more PCs / laptops on sale that come without a CD-ROM drive (and sometimes without Windows preinstalled). Those. I am leading to the fact that it is not so easy to do without a bootable USB flash drive / disk ...

One of the most convenient programs for preparing and creating installation (bootable) media is WinSetupFromUSB... The most important criterion why the choice fell on it is functionality, free and easy to use.

Judge for yourself, the utility is capable of creating bootable USB drives that will work on a wide variety of PCs and laptops: i.e. universal option suitable for both UEFI and BIOS.

In general, even if you do not understand the latest encryptions, I will say this - the boot drive we created (in this article) should allow it to boot on most computers / laptops.

And so, let's get down to business ...

How to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10

What you need to get started

1) WinSetupFromUSB utility

In my opinion, this is one of the best utilities for creating bootable USB drives. Firstly, it is free and does not need to be installed, and secondly, it works fine and supports most OS (Windows XP, 7, 8, 10), sees all drives connected to the system, and makes it easy to format them.

In addition, it can make multi-bootable media (with several OS), keep an event log, etc.

Where to download the WinSetupFromUSB program: on the official website (the link is given above), I recommend choosing the latest version (at the moment it is 1.8).

Also, a very important plus is (I already mentioned this a little higher) that WinSetupFromUSB allows you to create bootable USB sticks that can be loaded both in BIOS and UEFI (i.e. a kind of universal option that will work on the vast majority of computers).

2) Bootable ISO image from Windows 10

In general, such an image can now be downloaded even from the official Microsoft website. It is highly advisable to use an ISO image on which one specific version of the OS (with one bit). Let me explain with an example:

  1. good option: " Windows 10 Home x64" ;
  2. bad option: "Windows 10 - 20 in 1 (x86 + x64)" - with all these assemblies (from craftsmen), with different bit versions, with several OS versions, there are many errors and problems (both when creating installation drives and during their subsequent use).

3) A flash drive of at least 4 GB (better than 8 GB or more)

The most common USB stick for 4-8 GB (preferably 8 GB, since many ISO images with Windows 10 are larger than 4 GB).

👉 Remark!

How to choose (what to look for when choosing a flash drive).

Run WinSetupFromUSB

Downloaded file with the program WinSetupFromUSB(from the official site) is a regular archive packed with the 7-Zip program. In order to extract all program files from it, you just need to run it.

There are two versions in the program folder: for x64 and x32 systems. If you don't know what OS you have, try running both files one at a time (if you open the wrong file, the program simply won't start, giving an error).

Setting up the boot image recording settings

1) For starters copy everything you need from a USB flash drive, with which we will work (in the process of recording Windows - everything will be deleted from it). Next in WinSetupFromUSB click the button Refresh so that the program "sees" your drive (see arrow-1 in the screenshot below).

2) Then check the boxes (checkboxes) in front of the following items: Auto Format it with FBinst, FAT 32, align, Copy BPB (as shown in rectangle-2 in the screenshot below). By doing this, we will format and convert the USB flash drive to bootable type.

3) On line 3 (see screen below) "Vista / 7/8/10 / Server 2008/2012 based ISO" indicate your boot image with Windows 10(if there is a warning, as I have in the screenshot below, just agree. The speech in this window is that the image with Windows is more than 4 GB and such a file cannot be written to the FAT 32 file system (note: the WinSetupFromUSB utility will break it, so everything is fine here ☺)).

4) Well, to start the utility work - press the GO button.

WinSetupFromUSB settings

By the way, below I will give another screen of how all the settings look like, only without my underlines.

We confirm and agree to format the flash drive

After pressing the button GO- the utility will warn you that all data on the flash drive will be deleted. Therefore, once again I advise you to first transfer all the data, make a backup.

By the way, there are as many as 2 warnings (usually) ...

While WinSetupFromUSB is running, it is better not to launch resource-intensive applications (games, video and photo editors, etc.) and not to close the program window (sometimes it seems to some that it freezes, because it does not show signs of life ☺. But this is not so, in the lower part of the window, a small green bar "fills", the inscriptions about the state of the process change - these are the indicators).

If the drive was successfully created (and no errors occurred in the process), you should see a small window with one short phrase "Job Done"(work completed). Now you can use the flash drive ...

Checking how the flash drive works

To test the drive, I used a relatively modern laptop with UEFI. Calling the Boot Menu - the laptop showed that it sees the USB flash drive (as well as the one installed on the Windows hard drive). I tried to boot from a USB flash drive.

👉 Note!

Instructions on how to enter . It may be required when you need to boot, for example, from a USB flash drive.

This is how it is, both difficult and simple at the same time.

The days when only a specially trained person could reinstall the operating system on a computer, laptop or tablet are long gone. Today, many PC users (even inexperienced ones) are able to perform such an operation, having at hand only a USB flash drive with the desired distribution kit. True, not everyone understands exactly how to create such a bootable USB drive, so at this stage of reinstallation, problems often arise.

WinSetupFromUSB is a real salvation for those who prefer to change Windows on their own. The program is free, therefore it is very popular among users. It is designed to create bootable flash drives that write one or more operating systems.

WinSetupFromUSB solves a lot of problems that arise while working on a PC, namely, it helps to reinstall the OS, is used to restore the system, cures the device from viruses, copies files from the computer and performs other useful functions.

WinSetupFromUSB is especially relevant when there is no CD / DVD drive, which means that the operating system can be replaced only from a bootable USB flash drive.

Key features of the program

  • Recording of various variations of 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems.
  • Recording of various variations of the Linux operating system.
  • Support for OSs such as BSD, in particular FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
  • Formation of an emergency recovery disk from an ISO image made on the basis of Linux and the most popular antivirus software (ESET, Avast, Kaspersky, etc.).
  • Support for ISO images of pre-installation Windows.
  • Ability to create multiboot disks.
  • Bootable virtual disks created in the program are capable of booting in UEFI and BIOS mode.
  • Support for images compatible with Grub4dos CD emulation, such as Ultimate Boot CD.
  • SysLinux boot menu based on SysLinux sources and IsoLinux as main bootloader.
  • Detailed logging of events at the time of execution of assigned actions.

Pros and cons of WinSetupFromUSB

Like many other programs, WinSetupFromUSB has several advantages and disadvantages. In defense of the utility, I would like to note that if there are any flaws in it, they are insignificant and do not affect the quality of the created bootable USB disks. But still, it is worth voicing some of the pros and cons so that you know what you will face while working.

  • The program is simple and easy to use.
  • The ability to combine up to 10 distributions on one flash drive.
  • Built-in QEMU virtual machine.
  • If there is a GRUB4DOS bootloader on the USB disk, it cannot be overwritten, but only menu.lst is corrected. This means that all menu settings, distributions and programs are saved.
  • You can test the operation of the bootable flash drive without overloading the computer.
  • Does not require installation on a PC.
  • Free utility.
  • Lack of a Russian-language version of the program.
  • Unscrupulous distributors can, along with the application, add viruses to the archive that will infect a PC.
  • Several distributions in the root of the flash drive give out "ugly" folders.
  • Lengthy recording process Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Available platforms

As mentioned earlier, with the help you can make a bootable USB flash drive with various operating systems. In the utility itself, during the creation of the boot disk, you can see five points, which indicate the various distributions. Let's talk about each separately:

  • Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 Setup. Windows can be written to WinSetupFromUSB from the 2000 version. To do this, you must specify the path to this operating system.
  • Windows Vista / 7/8/10 / Server 2008/2012 based ISO. In this case, everything is simple: this item will be needed by those who decide to write one of the proposed OS to a USB flash drive. Do not forget to specify the location of the folder with the desired ISO-image of one of the distributions.
  • UBCCD4Win / WinBoilder / Windows FLPC / Bart PE. This string is used for bootable USB drives based on WinPE. In the course of work, you should specify the path to the folder that includes the folder I
  • LinuxISO / Other Grub4dos compatible ISO. Everything is clear here - an item for those who wish to record the Linux OS. In addition, by selecting this line, you can create a number of programs like “Kaspersky Rescue Disk, Hiren’s BootCD, RBCD. Do not forget to specify the path to the downloaded ISO images.

Hiren's BootCD is a useful utility that allows you to "reanimate" your computer after any unexpected failure.

  • SysLinux bootsector / Linux distribution using SysLinux / IsoLinux. This item can also be used to write Linux distributions, but only if they are installed using the Syslinux bootloader. Before starting recording, you should specify the path to the folder with the contents of the "SYSLINUX" folder.

WinSetupFromUSB: instruction for Windows 7

Writing Windows OS to a bootable flash drive through the WinSetupFromUSB program is as follows:

  7. Wait until the recording process is finished.
  8. After recording, in the notification that opens, click "OK". Exit the WinSetupFromUSB program via the "EXIT" button.

There are many ways to make bootable virtual disks for OS reinstallation. But these methods are not always effective. If you want to quickly and easily create a bootable or multiboot flash drive, then this program will be the best option. A clear interface, a simple recording process, no lags, accessibility - all this will be at your disposal if you use the VinSetapFromYusb utility.
