How to mount an iso disk image windows 10. Opening an iso image on a computer. Opening with special programs

Hi people. So this question interests some users, but how to open an ISO image in Windows 10? This is a question, a question! I just don’t know why you need it .. But if you need it, then I’ll tell you how. And here there are no secrets, the whole point boils down to the fact that, in a sense, an ISO disk image is an archive! And how do they open archives? Well, that's right, archiver!

Well, okay? Usually ISO images are not opened by the archiver and in general it is better not to touch them. There are special programs for opening ISO images, such as Alcohol 120, there is also a utility from Nero (I don’t remember exactly what it’s called), there is also a utility called Deamon Tuls (maybe I misspelled the name). But if you need to quickly open an ISO image in Windows 10 and you don’t want to download any programs, then you can use a regular archiver, for example 7-Zip or WinRAR

I have WinRAR installed, so I'll show you how to open an ISO image for them. So, what is my image, you know? It's just a Windows installation image, it's called like this: ru_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_x64_dvd_9057886.iso, you're probably wondering, what is LTSB in the image name? LTSB is a version of Windows in which a lot of things are missing, all sorts of rubbish has been cut out here, there are no metro applications here, I have just such a version of Windows and I am satisfied. So guys, generally look, here is my ISO image in the folder:

I will show you how to open an image not in a simple way, but difficult, so that you will surely succeed. So I click right click mice in the image and select the Open with item there and then select the Select another application item in the submenu:

Yes, here you can select the WinRAR item in the submenu and that's it, the image will open. But it may be that you will not have a WinRAR item here, it may not be a WinRAR menu at all! So, then a window will appear, there you need to select WinRAR (well, or 7-Zip, if you have it) and click the OK button:

That's it, now you will have a WinRAR window that will contain the contents of the ISO image:

So you opened it. What can I do here? Well, what do you want? You can drag the files from here to some folder, that is, extract if you need it. You can see the files here. But of course I do not advise you to delete anything, you just break the image and then it will no longer work

When asked by the user how to mount a disk image in the latest edition of the operating room Windows systems under the tenth number, there is a simple answer.

To do this, it is enough to take advantage of the functional feature of the system itself, which automatically eliminates the need to download and install third-party programs on the computer.

Everyone knows that disk images of the most common ISO formats, VCD (VirtualCD), IMG and MDS / MDF (DAEMON Tools, Alcohol 120%), mainly downloaded by users from the Internet, are exact copies of all the contents of optical or removable disks. Also, any files of their owner (training courses, games, collections of programs, installation discs OS, etc.).

The function of mounting ISO / IMG images in Explorer was first implemented in the eighth version of the operating system. And this has become one of the best, useful and relevant innovations of the operating system. Of course, to get more advanced capabilities in working with disk image files, the user cannot do without an additional program installed on the computer.

The following command:

Dismount-DiskImage -ImagePath "Full file path"

safely remove it from the drive.

There are cases when after installing the WinRAR archiver, image files are automatically associated with this program and instead of "Connections" are opened as archives. To exclude such behavior, go to the archiver parameters and uncheck the “Associate WinRAR with” item, or in the operating system settings, set the default program to open this type of file.

On this we will put an end to the instructions! Still have questions? Ask in the comments.

Some programs, and especially games, are quite often distributed in the form of an ISO image. This format distribution has its advantages, but it is not always the best for end users. The problem often arises with mounting the image on the system.
Windows 8 and 10 have built-in support for mounting ISO images. There it is done literally in two clicks: you need to right-click on the image file and select the "Connect" item in the menu that appears.

But what about those who work, for example, in Windows 7 or even Windows XP? There is a solution!
I present to your attention the WinCDEmu Portable program. This small, free and portable utility does an excellent job with little or no impact on the system. This compares favorably with such "monsters" as DAEMON Tools Lite, Alcohol 52%.
It is also important that the program also supports other formats. With the same ease with which the program mounts ISO, it can mount images in formats: CUE, NRG, MDS / MDF, CCD, IMG. In this regard, the utility can be useful in Windows 10, where there is no standard support for these formats.

A little about the interface and features of working with the program.

After launch, a window will be displayed with the following text (free translation): WinCDEmu Portable will install the driver needed to create virtual disks CD / DVD. You can uninstall the driver at any time using this program. Do you want to continue?
After confirmation, a very ascetic window will appear, in which there is nothing superfluous :-)
Adding images to the list is carried out both by clicking the "Mount another image" button, and by dragging the image file onto the program window.
For the occasional need to mount an image, WinCDEmu is the best choice.

A disk image is a virtual file - a copy containing all information from any physical medium. You cannot do without a program for mounting disk images if your computer has content presented in the format of a virtual clone of a CD / DVD disk. Below are five ways to mount a disk image in Windows so that its contents are available in a virtual drive.

How to make a disk image using standard Windows tools

First, let's look at the standard functionality of mounting CD / DVD images in the version of Windows 8.1.

Time of creation Windows versions 8, from which the standard functionality for working with disk images migrated to all successor versions - Windows 8.1 and 10 - accounted for the massive phenomenon of manufacturers' refusal computer devices from the build of their drives. CD / DVDs were outdated, and the lack of a drive made the final cost cheaper individual models laptops and PC assemblies. Microsoft, in fact, had nothing else to do, how to implement the standard ability to connect disk images, at least only in the popular ISO format, so as not to take bread from third-party software developers at all. So, if in the version of Windows 7, mounting disk images is possible only through third-party software, then users can view the contents of the disk itself in ISO format using the system.

So how do you mount an ISO disk image in Windows 8.x and Windows 10? In Explorer, select the ISO file, open the context menu and select the "Connect" command.

That's it - the image is mounted and can be seen in the virtual drive. You can start viewing its contents in System Explorer.

Disk imaging software

Mounting images in the Deamon Tools program

Deamon Tools is the market leader software to create a disk image. The first version of Deamon Tools appeared in 2000, and, despite the fact that its counterparts were released on the software market earlier, it immediately gained popularity rapidly due to the friendly user interface and the free Lite edition, which was more than enough for home non-professional use. ... Daemon tools works with almost all formats of disk images. The program's operation is invisible even for low-power devices, since it uses a minimum of system resources. The free Lite version contains limitations - in particular, this is the ability to simultaneously mount only 4 virtual drives. Whereas in paid Pro version Advanced, 32 drives can be mounted on the computer.

Relatively recently, Daemon Tools has radically changed, and the classic interface has been replaced by dullness and wretchedness, but with a very clear description of functions and a clear internal organization of sections. The functionality of the program has been replenished, but not everything is available in the Lite version. Demonstration of individual features without the possibility of using them is a marketing ploy to entice users to purchase the paid version.

Daemon Tools Lite 10 is available for free download on the developer's website.

An important point during installation - select an option free license.

Among the innovations of the Daemon Tools version is the option to scan your computer to detect disk images and display them in the internal library. Well, let's take this opportunity.

After scanning, all possible virtual CD / DVD and hard drives will be visible in the program window. Select the required type, open the context menu and execute the "Mount" command.

As before, disk images can be added to the Daemon Tools interface one at a time using the quick mount button.

To unmount a virtual drive, call the context menu on its connection icon at the bottom of the program window and select the appropriate command.

How to mount an image in UltraISO

UltraISO is a mega-program designed for professional use. Among its features are such as: creating images of CD / DVD-disks, burning them to disc and editing without unpacking, optimizing the structure in order to save space, converting from one format to another, etc. This program is also a reliable and proven tool for creating bootable USB drives.

UltraISO is a paid software product. The free trial version is of little use if it comes full use of most of the opportunities. So, the trial version has limitations due to which it will not be possible to create or burn an ISO file, the weight of which is more than 300 MB. In our case, when we are talking purely about mounting a disk image to a virtual drive, this limitation does not apply. Therefore, you can safely download the trial version with the Russian-language interface from the UltraISO developer's site.

After launching UltraISO, you will see a small window telling us about the limitations of the trial version and encouraging us to buy the paid version. We press the button " Trial period».

In the program window, open the "File" menu and press the "Open" button.

Add the image file.

We open the "Tools" menu and select "Mount to virtual drive" among the commands present.

A small window will appear where you need to select the mount button. The button next to it - "Unmount" - must be used, respectively, to extract the CD / DVD image from the virtual drive.

How to burn an image to disk in Alcohol 52%

Alcohol 52% Free Edition Is a free cut-down version of the well-known program for emulating CD / DVD Alcohol 120%. Unlike the latter, paid Alcohol 52% allows you to mount a limited number of virtual drives at the same time - up to 6 pieces. In the free version of Alcohol 52% Free Edition, this number is completely reduced to a minimum - only 2 parallel virtual drives. Also free version does not provide for burning discs to discs.

A free trial version of the utility can be downloaded from the developer's official website.

At the time of this writing, it was not possible to download the program installer with the browser downloader, but the problem was successfully solved using the Download Master download manager.

Tricks of developers who want to purchase paid versions from them software products, no limits. In the case of the trial version of Alcohol 52%, we will not just look at the demo window with an offer to buy full version programs, but you will even have to wait a few seconds until the button for launching the program "Ok" becomes active.

In the Alcohol 52% window, open the File menu and select Open.

Add the required file to the program window, open the context menu on it and select the "Mount to device" command.

To extract an image from a virtual drive, open the context menu again and select the "Unmount ..." command, respectively.

The fastest way to mount and unmount a virtual drive

The above discussed ways of working with virtual drives inside programs. But there is also a more convenient, faster way to mount and unmount a virtual drive. If during installation Daemon Tools Lite is registered as a program that opens ISO files by default, you can mount the drive by opening the image as a regular file by double-clicking the mouse from the system explorer. In the case of the UltraISO program, the disk image will be instantly added to the program window for further actions. But Alcohol 52% will simply open, as with a normal launch, however, it is also convenient.

If the program was not assigned by default during installation, it can be done manually at any time. To assign a program that opens a particular type of ISO file by default, find any of them in Windows Explorer and select Properties from the context menu.

Click the change application button.

If the desired program not in the list, select "Advanced", go down to the end of the list and click the search option for another application.

Specify the program startup file in the installation folder.

Apply changes.

Now, in the system explorer, the CD / DVD image file will be displayed as the program's icon by default and will open in this program at startup.

The easiest way to unmount the virtual drive is in the system explorer. Among the commands of the context menu, called on the mounted drive, there is a function to eject a disc.

The virtual drive will then disappear.

Have a great day!

ISO image is an informal term for an image optical disc containing file system ISO 9660 standard.

In fact, images are identical copies of disks that can be used virtually, without physical media. This provides tremendous opportunities for information dissemination and data exchange. This is especially true for the gaming segment, since the creation and emulation of the image bypasses 98% of the possible protection against piracy.

ISO is the most common image format that any emulation program can accept.

Now almost everyone OS have integrated tools for shallow imaging. For deeper processing: converting the image format, adding and removing files, writing to non-standard media, you need additional software.

Opening an ISO file using standard Windows 10 tools

Windows 10 integrates a small utility called ImDisk Virtual Disk Driver. Therefore, by right-clicking on the ISO file, we will see the "Connect" item. This creates a virtual DVD drive into which the image is loaded.

Right-click on the image file and click "Connect"

The transition to the drive directory occurs automatically and immediately after connection.

After Windows connections creates a virtual drive and loads an image file into it

As a result, we have a virtual analogue of a working floppy drive.

UltraISO has a specific interface, but this is only at first glance.

Opening an image with DAEMON Tools

DAEMON Tools, on this moment is the most popular imaging software. The main advantages of the program are a very user-friendly interface and the ability to create several virtual drives.

As a result, the disk will be loaded into the virtual drive.

You can also add images to the dialog box by dragging and dropping files into the program.

Using the archiver

Archivers can also work with ISO files, only very limited: you cannot mount an image, write it to a medium. You can only read, copy or paste data and files.

The most popular archiver at the moment is the old WinRAR program.
