Modern UI (Metro Apps): several ways to close an app on tablet and computer

On full-fledged Windows 8.1 and which costs only $ 95. And so now I will sometimes write articles dedicated to optimizing the work of Windows 8.1 (and soon Windows 10) on tablets. I think in the near future I will roll the reviewer onto a tablet, although I understood from the hardware what I ordered, but I had new complaints about Microsoft and their attitude to touch displays.

Today we will consider, by the way, one of them. My tablet has 2 GB of RAM, and although Microsoft has improved the system for optimizing the use of RAM in Windows 8.1, I prefer to control open applications myself (an old habit, you know). Thanks to this refinement, applications in the background should be partially unloaded from RAM, and after a while they should be closed altogether. So, it turned out that on touch screens, it is not so easy to guess how to close these most modern applications (free translation of the Modern UI App). In total, I found four ways to close the application, absolutely all work when using a mouse, but only two can be used using a touch screen and I do not quite understand why Microsoft did this. Well, let's start in order:

Closing the application in the left sidebar (for any OS version)

Now press the right mouse button on the desired application and select "Close". Why the creators did not make this menu for a long tap on the application, I absolutely do not understand.

Shutting down the application in the standard way (for Windows 8.1 or 10)

This method appeared already in Windows 8.1. but it seems not even right away, but together with Update 1 (I don't remember exactly). It is simple, when the application is open, you need to press the mouse to the top of the screen and the black bar will drop. This black bar on the right has the classic Minimize and Close buttons. Click on the cross and the application is closed.

Drag-and-drop close (for any OS version)

And before that, you should have thought of it yourself (according to Microsoft). Well, okay, let's move on to the last method.

Exit the application through the taskbar (for Windows 8.1 or 10)

By default, the display of modern applications on the taskbar is disabled in the system, open applications can be seen only in the left side menu. Fortunately, this can be fixed fairly easily. To do this, right-click or use a long tap on the taskbar in an empty space. And choose "Properties".

The first tab is "Task Pane". You need to put a tick in the checkbox "Show applications from the Windows Store on the taskbar".

That's all. I hope this article was useful to you, click one of the buttons below to tell your friends about it. Also subscribe to site updates by entering your e-mail in the field on the right or by subscribing to a group on Vkontakte.
