Coating looks and feels reminiscent of other iPods without touch in the name, such as iPod Nano of any generation, as well as a cover MacBook Air... Of course, if you wish, it can also be covered with scratches, but this is not so easy now. And the device is very easy to wipe off dirt and dust.

Secondly, the dimensions have changed: it, like its older brother iPhone 5, has become longer. At the same time, its thickness has reached an incredible 6.1 millimeters, which gives the impression of a very thin device. The player lies comfortably in the hand, and with a mass of 88 grams it will not even pull off the pocket of a women's summer shirt. The only minor flaw in the design: unlike the iPhone, the camera module protrudes slightly from the body, which, however, is justified by the thickness. Probably, he simply did not fit inside.

There are two more interesting details on the lid of the device besides the camera module with flash and the company logo. To the right of the camera, you can see a black oval insert. This element is not here for the sake of beauty, but for the sake of practicality: hidden behind an oval Wi-Fi module... This is how Apple overcame the eternal problem of metal cases: the shielding of this module. A silvery roundness can be seen in the lower left corner. If you press it, it comes out slightly from the case, freeing up the hole for securing the bundled lace.

Comparing with the world of Android devices in terms of processor frequency and amount of memory, the player may seem like an anachronism. In fact, we know how rarely Apple devices slow down with much more modest technical data, so we will compare with our own. That is, the overwhelming majority of games (probably for now all games that fit the screen resolution) from the Apple Store will run without problems, just like on the last three iPhones. System and music

There is not much to add about the system. Here the default is set iOS system 6, during testing it was updated to version 6.0.1. The biggest criticism in this OS came from the map service, but for the iPod it is not so critical, after all GPS module not here, the player will only allow you to navigate the maps in the Wi-Fi coverage area. By the way, it works great here.

Accordingly, the player here is also typical for iOS, without add-ons, and you will have to get the music through iTunes. This program is not perceived by many, even more: it is perceived by many as an obstacle. Nevertheless, if you put things in order through this application, then using your music collection, on the contrary, is quite convenient. It's just a pity that we (residents of Ukraine, Russia and other highly respected Apple powers) cannot buy music on iTunes online, everything will have to be downloaded via desktop version iTunes.

iPod supports a lot of audio formats, but all without surprises: AAC, protected AAC, HE-AAC, MP3 (up to 320 kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, AAX +), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV. Alas, Flac, as usual, is not on this list, which often discourages audiophiles from buying such a player. But in general, the sound of the player, as usual, is at its best. Of course, this is not hi-fi, and there are more powerful players on the market, nevertheless, the player sounds more than decent, especially with good headphones for portable equipment. The complete plugs, by the way, have become better. Bass appeared, frequencies leveled off a bit. However, the player deserves more.

The speaker does not creak even at high volume, but it does not give out any special miracles: the sound is flat and harsh, but for movies or an alarm clock (especially for an alarm clock!) It will do quite well.

32 gigabytes is a serious size for a portable media player. It is quite enough for a music collection, a couple of films, and dozens of applications from the AppStore. If this is not enough, you can take a closer look at the 64 GB version. By modern standards, it should be enough for everything. Oh yes! iPod touch 5G is the first player with which you can enter into verbal contact through the SIRI intelligent robot, loved by many. Or is it still loved? The robot stubbornly hides its gender. Sometimes it's nice to press the button and say "Siri, I'm too lazy to look for something, but give me All of me." Only speak English for now. Or German. Or Chinese. Or some other, but not yet in Russian. And not in Ukrainian, of course.

A camera with a typical iDevice interface and quite decent quality. Just remember that it still falls short of the level of the iPhone 4s: at least there are fewer megapixels. The results are below.

So we got to the very point that can persuade even the owner of one of the last two iPhones to buy a player. So, in the music playback mode, the new iPod touch worked incessantly for 39 hours and 14 minutes. All this time, the Wi-Fi module was turned off, but the screen and camera turned on periodically. And the player played an HD video over the network for about 7 hours. Very good results! No, if you switch the iPhone to airplane mode and turn on the player, the autonomy will be about the same. But who will do it? In the "tablet" mode of use, the battery charge is enough, depending on the intensity, for a day or two.

An excellent product, bright and memorable. Apple once again strikes with design: just after looking at it, almost everyone who I showed it to wanted to become its owners. What is most interesting, twisting it in your hands, clicking on the icons, listening to music, this spontaneous desire, on which, oh, how well they know how to make money at Apple, did not disappear anywhere.

However, there are many "buts" here. For example, the owners of iPhone 4s / 5 do not really need a new iPod touch, since it repeats the functionality of these smartphones, but lacks GSM and GPS modules. If they still want to have a separate player (say, to drain the battery less or for some other reason), the iPod Nano or other models much more affordable than the iPod touch are more suitable for them. Owners of relatively old iPhones, who are still satisfied with the smartphone functions of their devices, may well take this player as an additional device: in addition to listening to music, it will also allow playing new games, some of them are already too heavy for outdated platforms.

In the same way, it may interest those who are far from Apple devices... The iPod touch 5G is a good contender for the first iDevice, capable of being both a player and a great, fast, small tablet for much less than the last two iPhones. The player comes in transparent plastic packaging with Apple's inherent minimalism in everything. The device itself is on a special stand, which is quite easy to remove. Inside, in addition to the player itself, you can see branded EarPods headphones and a Lighting cable, as well as characteristic only of this generation touch players Apple accessory - hand strap. To be honest, I don’t think that this element is a necessary attribute of a modern player, but thanks to the colors that match the player, lovers of everything bright and extraordinary will surely please.

Speaking of flowers. The fifth generation iPod touch is by far the brightest and most colorful portable player not only of the company, but, probably, of the whole world. How long have you seen, for example, an acid yellow player? Even the new iPod nano looks a little less flashy. Moreover, such a colorfulness of the new "tach" has already served as a platform for rumors about a similar color variety of future Apple products, and I must admit, that would be very cool. The new touch really looks gorgeous. I even know people who, despite having an iPhone, are willing to buy one because of the design and weight. The player turned out to be truly weightless (88 g) and incredibly thin (6.1 mm), and it feels more comfortable and pleasant in my hand than the iPhone 5.

On the front side of the device there is a widescreen 4 "Retina-display similar to the last iPhone, showing excellent picture and pleasing with maximum viewing angles. It is now much more convenient to watch movies on it, because video with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels goes without any stripes. Above the screen, you can see the front-facing FaceTime HD camera, below it - the physical Home button, which is responsible for returning to the home screen, calling Siri and closing applications. There is nothing on the right side, while the left side contains the volume keys. Above is the power button, and below is the 3.5 mm headphone jack, Lightning connector and speaker. Alas, there is one like the iPhone 5, and not two like the iPad mini. On the back there is a 5MP iSight camera with autofocus and flash, covered with a sapphire crystal, and a strap mount. To attach an accessory, you need to click on the mount, and only then put on the strap.

Like the previous iPod touch, the new one remained in a metal case, but lost its polished back, scratching from the slightest touch and even in a case (have you heard the joke about the iPod touch waking up and undressing at night, and then scratching its back?). At the same time, the company managed to achieve a very small thickness. I don't even want to talk about the build quality - everything is perfectly fitted, there is nothing to complain about. On my sample, small subtle chips of the bezel of the device were noticed, but my device came from Apple's test fund, so it is not known who and how used it before, although they could have appeared during my use. In any case, it should be understood that similar device deserves careful treatment and it will not be superfluous to buy some case or case for it, but when buying, you should carefully examine the ends of the player for chips.

Software

I will not focus on the implementation of certain iOS features 6.0.1, as you can find it in the full review of the Apple iPad mini, only in the tablet version. From the provided screenshots of iPod touch, you can get an impression of certain functions. I want to tell you about the most interesting features player and introduce you to the iTunes Store, but first things first and we'll start with the music player.

It has several categories - playlists, artists, songs, albums and "more", hiding authors, genres and collections. Artists are sorted alphabetically, as well as songs and albums. There is a search bar. Each page takes you to the iTunes Store.

The interface of the player itself is very simple - only toggle buttons, rewind scale, volume control, repeat and shuffle. Clicking the menu in the upper right corner will show all the songs in that album or playlist. Rotating the player horizontally activates Cower Flow mode with a beautiful 3D presentation of album art. It is worth noting that in the desktop iTunes Apple has already got rid of this functionality, so other products of the company may also be deprived of it in the near future. Of course, all this looks beautiful and impressive, but as for me, it is hardly applicable in real life. Except that you can admire it a couple of times and show it to your friends. ITunes Store

As you know, not so long ago the iTunes Store came to our country, as well as 55 other countries around the world. At the same time, a musical evening dedicated to the launch of this store was held only in Russia. The store has a huge selection of local local and international music from major international labels and independent record companies. Over 20 million songs are available for purchase and download for iTunes Store users. All music in the iTunes store is available in iTunes Plus, Apple's DRM-free format and recorded with 256 kbps AAC to keep audio quality as close as possible to the original.

In the store itself, you can find not only the usual tracks and albums of the performers, but also special digital re-editions, which include the complete collection of works of this or that performer, supplemented by booklets, arts and various interactive materials. In addition, there are many exclusives in the store, such as recordings of live concerts and festivals. There are also specialized collections that appear on the storefront as they become relevant. You can find collections of memory of various deceased singers or musicians. It is also worth mentioning the function “iTunes in the cloud”, which thanks to iCloud allows you to sync all your purchased music between all your devices at no additional cost. That is, in other words, purchased at work with using iPhone songs can be sent straight home to your MacBook, PC or laptop, and iPad. You can get the same benefits for your entire music library, including those not purchased from a store, thanks to iTunes Match, which stores your library in the cloud and makes it available from any iOS device for 700 rubles per month.

By the way, not so long ago a funny story happened, which has not yet received an official comment. A collection of all Pink Floyd albums for 139 rubles has appeared in the store, and this is no less than 14 albums with digital booklets and art works. Naturally, everyone who noticed such a strange joint rushed to buy the collection. In the American store, a similar collection cost $ 139, so it seems that in Russian branch the currency conversion failed. A couple of days later, the Pink Floyd meeting cost 2,000 rubles, but none of those who bought it at 139 rubles each had the missing money written off.

Movies that have appeared in the iTunes Store are also worth mentioning. In addition to buying both domestic and foreign films in standard and HD quality, there is an opportunity to rent films. The prices are quite humane. It is also worth noting that there are films without Russian voice acting, although most of them have voice acting in several languages ​​at once.

A separate item is to highlight gift cards and iTunes codes. After the arrival of the iTunes Store in Russia, you can not think about gifts for your friends or relatives, but simply give them their favorite music or movies using iTunes gift cards of various denominations - 500, 1000, 1500 rubles. They are sold from authorized Apple resellers such as re: Store, M.Video, Mediamarkt, Svyaznoy and many others.
