Core 2, the characteristics of which will be given in today's review, is budget decision South Korean company. Within the territory of Russian Federation as of 2015, the cost of the device was 7,500 rubles. After almost a full year, it dropped to 7,000 rubles. You can buy 2, the characteristics of which raise a number of questions not only from those who want to buy the device, but also from those who have already bought it, in some stores. For example, in the MTS retail network.

Brief information

Samsung Galaxy Core 2 G355H, the characteristics of which are soberly evaluated by experts at the top three, is a typical representative of the budget class and has a screen with a diagonal of 4.5 inches. A small device that can fit in one palm. At the same time, it will be quite convenient to operate them in the sense that the thumb freely reaches any point of the display, right to the very corners. With permission, the developers screwed up, of course. However, more on that later. On board we are expected not quite fresh, but quite working version operating system of the "Android" family. This is version 4.4. With battery life, not everything is as good as we would like. The same can be said for the five megapixel camera. The entire set of necessary communications is present, with the exception of the 4G LTE module.

Design

Samsung Galaxy Core 2, the characteristics of which can be found above, shows us the continuation of the design line that the specialists of the South Korean company bend. In some ways, they decided to move away from their traditions, abandoning rectangular shapes. You will notice that the edges of the device are rounded. Well, this is a very successful decision, and there can be no complaints about this parameter. The phone lies in the hand neatly, tightly, reliably, but all this is only under normal conditions. If your hands sweat or get wet from water, the device tries to slip out of your hands, which is not good.

Manufacturing materials

Samsung Galaxy Core 2, the characteristics of which we gave at the beginning of the article, is made of plastic and metal. Rather, its front panel is made from the latter material. Actually, that's why some massiveness is felt at the exit. Nevertheless, it is very, very difficult to call this model a “brick”. And the point here is in a number of weight and size factors. In principle, there should be no complaints about this point. Move on. The back cover of the smartphone is made of soft-touch plastic. It seems to be a good practical solution that is used almost everywhere. However, there are pitfalls here. Earlier it was said that the phone seems to be securely in place. But as soon as you touch it with wet hands, the reliability of holding begins to fall rapidly.

Minuses

Another drawback of the back cover is the fact that the lower part of it begins to wear over time. And this is very noticeable from the outside. So that the buyer does not think that everything is very bad, we can cite one advantage that should at least compensate for the listed disadvantages, because it is unlikely that it will be possible to block them with a profit. The back cover has a grooved surface. This will save the customer from fingerprints and scratches.

Control elements

The front face of the characteristics of which in some sense contradict each other, the screen itself will demonstrate to us. It has a diagonal of 4.5 inches. Above is the speaker grill, to the right of it is the front camera peephole. Under the speaker there is an inscription Samsung, to the right - Duos. Yes, the device supports two SIM cards. Navigation buttons are located under the screen. Two of them ("Back" and "List of applications") are touch-sensitive, and the "Home" key, located in the middle, is mechanical. For a long time of operation, the paint did not peel off the sensor elements, for which we are grateful to the developers.

Parties

Samsung Galaxy Core 2 Duos, the characteristics of which appeared on the international network even before the presentation and release of the device, has a paired volume and sound mode key on the left side, and a lock button on the right. As we can see, in contrast to the same, these elements are spaced apart on different sides. However, there should be no complaints about this, since the device does not become less comfortable to operate. Note that none of the keys has any backlash. The device is assembled soundly, does not creak when twisted. There is a drawback in the case, which concerns the chrome plating (edging): it will wear off, and at an active pace.

Display

In this regard, the budget segment of the South Korean company has not made many users happy for a long time. We can observe the same in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H, the characteristics of which will be given below. So, we have a 4.5-inch screen installed. This is a TFT matrix. In fact, IPS would fit here. But the developers decided in their own way, probably due to the low capacity of the battery (less than 2,000 milliamperes per hour). Yes, indeed, there are savings. However, we will have to pay for this by the inability to read the text in bright sunlight. The picture fades very noticeably. By the way, there is no light sensor, which means that you will have to manually adjust the brightness level. The screen resolution is 480 by 800 pixels. After some time of use, the sensor will begin to behave inappropriately and live its own life. When one drop of water gets in, the device starts to randomly open and close applications, dial numbers and write messages.

Hardware platform and performance

The Samsung G355H Galaxy Core 2 Duos, which features quickly appeared in all specialized editions, is equipped with a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz and 768 megabytes of RAM. The operating system of the "Android" family of version 4.4 is already on board. Not the best option, but perfect for such a mediocre filling. Sometimes it sometimes seems that you need something simpler, because the interface starts to work not quite smoothly, in jerks. The phone is not suitable for demanding games. You can open several applications at the same time, but it must be simple programs... Otherwise, “brakes” may start.

Samsung Galaxy Core 2 SM-G355H: characteristics from users and reviews

In general, the phone does not deserve special attention. In the price category where the device is located, there is a sufficient number of more productive and pleasant analogs. A lot of users complain about the smartphone camera. If the main module shoots even more or less acceptable in good lighting conditions, then front-camera- sheer horror. It is difficult to single out any positive qualities of the device. We could say that we have a good workhorse for surfing the Web, but this is not possible with a low-quality 3G module and a low battery charge. With active use of social networks, the device will turn off after lunch.

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device's position in space. As a primary function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the display image (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer, it can be controlled various functions devices by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures the angles of rotation relative to a fixed coordinate system. Able to measure angles of rotation in several planes at the same time. The gyroscope together with the accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. In devices using only accelerometers, the measurement accuracy is lower, especially when fast travel... Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor, thanks to which the optimal values of brightness and contrast are set for this level illumination. The presence of the sensor allows to increase the operating time of the device from the rechargeable battery.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to the face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks... The presence of the sensor allows to increase the operating time of the device from the rechargeable battery.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the side of the world to which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the earth's magnetic poles. The information received from the sensor is used in cartographic programs for orientation on the ground.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for accurate measurement atmospheric pressure. Is a part GPS systems, allows you to determine the altitude and speed up the positioning.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Satellite navigation:

Gps(Global Positioning System - Global Positioning System) - a satellite navigation system that measures distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is designed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine the location by measuring the distance to the object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated from the signal propagation delay time from its sending by the satellite to being received by the GPS receiver antenna.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measuring principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is intended for operational navigation and time support of land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that the GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchronization) with the Earth's rotation, which provides them with greater stability.

Design, materials and assembly

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is not similar in design to a modern smartphone. Well, absolutely. There is a feeling that it was not presented at the end of August 2018, but that way a couple of years ago, at least.

The device has a plastic case with a glossy back cover, which is not only very easily soiled, but also quickly covered with scratches.

On the front, there are huge bezels around the display with a classic 16: 9 aspect ratio. The margin is slightly higher at the top than at the bottom.

And it could be said to justify the Galaxy J2 Core that it is not very reasonable to expect modern solutions from a state employee. But nevertheless, looking at modern state employees from other manufacturers (even less famous ones), with more practical cases and elongated 18: 9 displays, with small frames, a logical question arises: why can they, but such a giant as Samsung - not?

But despite all the budget materials and a not very practical case, the assembly of the smartphone is decent - in my sample I did not notice any creaks or poorly fitted parts.

There is no oleophobic coating on the front of the glass, which, together with the glossy cover noted above, does not create a pleasant tactile sensation from using a smartphone and by itself collects anything at all: fingerprints, stains, dust particles and lint. And getting rid of the latter is not very easy.

Body colors on this moment there are two, black and gold, but both have a black bezel. And by the way, most likely, in a golden version, the lid will not be of such a brand.

Layout of elements

In front of the display are a cutout with an earpiece, a proximity sensor and a front camera. There is no light sensor in the smartphone, but there is a substitute that uses the front camera to determine the level of ambient light - I will talk about this method a little later.

Under the screen there is a frame with the Samsung logo. The inscription is a little darkened, so it doesn't strike the eye too much, but it would be better if it didn't exist at all.

On the right side there is a power button, and on the left there are two separate volume keys. All buttons are plastic.

The top is completely empty, while the bottom contains a microUSB port, a single microphone and a 3.5mm audio jack.

At the back we see a protruding block with a main camera eye and a flash ( safety glass slightly recessed in the frame), a cutout with the main multimedia speaker to the right of the unit and the manufacturer's logo under it.

Under the cover there are two slots for micro SIM cards and a slot for a microSD memory card. There is also a removable battery.

Ergonomics

The smartphone feels comfortable in the hand due to its small size and rounded body. It is comfortable to use with one hand - you can reach any area on the screen.

There is also nothing special in the arrangement of the controls - all the buttons are easily felt, the device does not slip out of the hands.

Samsung Galaxy J2 Core display

Looking at the parameters screen Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, then it might seem like it's really bad. It has a 5-inch TFT display with qHD resolution (960 × 540 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 16: 9.

In fact, the display turned out to be quite good. First, about the screen resolution. The fact that it is not high is noticeable. In particular, this can be clearly seen on small objects in applications. But such a situation can be called the norm in the budget segment. Although, of course, I would like to observe HD-resolution, as it happens in some other state employees.

The colors are saturated, the picture is contrasting and bright. The viewing angles are decent enough and, remarkably, no distortions were noticed.

In general, the matrix is of good quality, although it is TFT. How to tune, correct colors or white balance regular means it is forbidden. But there is the "Outdoors" mode - when activated, the maximum screen brightness increases a little more for greater comfort of use.

A little earlier, I promised to talk about the method of automatic brightness control (remember, there is no separate dedicated sensor). Each time the screen is activated, the smartphone takes a picture on the front camera and measures the surrounding illumination, after which the brightness changes. Obviously, this is not as convenient and fast as in the case of a normal light sensor, but this option is at least there.

Performance

The hardware installed in the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is fully consistent with its positioning. The processor is a proprietary development of the manufacturer - SoC Exynos 7570. The processor with 4 Cortex-A53 cores, made according to the 14-nm process technology, operates at a maximum clock frequency of up to 1.4 GHz. The graphics chip is Mali-T720 MP1.

In synthetic tests, the smartphone, which is logical, is not strong. Moreover, it could not pass some tests - for example, AnTuTu or some of 3DMark.

However, this is not so important, because the main thing is how it shows itself in normal operation. And here the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is surprisingly good. The shell works smoothly and the smartphone does not hesitate when opening programs. A similar situation is achieved through the use of a light version of the Android 8.1 Go Edition OS and its optimization. But we'll talk about it in more detail later. In short, for "get-togethers" in messengers, flipping feeds social networks, calls, not very active browsing and other typical tasks - the smartphone is quite suitable.

As for the amount of memory, here they are the minimum for 2018. RAM is only 1 GB, and permanent memory is 8 GB, of which 5.51 GB is available to the user. The permanent memory can be expanded with a microSD card up to 256 GB.

With gaming performance, I think everything is clear. The smartphone is not designed for heavy games in any way, but the buyer or owner similar device it is not needed. At the same time, it is quite possible to play any casual game on the J2 Core.

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core has a main camera module with a resolution of 8 megapixels, f / 2.2 aperture and autofocus.

About the quality of the photo ... you can just say that it is ordinary. In general, in such a budget, smartphones shoot approximately the same and Samsung Galaxy J2 Core failed to become an exception to the rule. Even in good daylight, the photos come out of low quality, and even with bad ones, even more so. It captures few details, which is especially visible when approaching the finished photo. And under artificial lighting, the white balance sometimes plays naughty.

The camera release is fast, autofocus works fine, but even so, if there is not a lot of light around, you can get a blurry frame. HDR features are not. The smartphone is capable of recording video in 1920 × 1080 resolution, but the quality is very poor.

Front camera module - 5 megapixels, f / 2.2 aperture. The front camera is also quite weak.

The camera application is very simple and there are practically no additional options. Everything is limited to a couple of filters, a trigger timer and the ability to turn on the grid.

In general, things are modest with photo opportunities.

Autonomy

Equipped with Samsung Galaxy J2 Core removable battery at 2600 mAh, which in combination with a 5-inch display of low qHD-resolution, unpretentious hardware and software is enough for about 1.5-2 days of work.

Of course, you can completely discharge the gadget during daylight hours, but with moderate use, if you do not load it with heavy tasks, but perform only those for which the device is designed, then the result is very decent. For example, I used the J2 Core as a second smartphone and it worked on a single charge for 3 days 9 hours with 7 hours 24 minutes of active screen.

Naturally, no fast charging the smartphone does not support and is fully charged from a conventional charger in a few hours.

Sound and communication

The earpiece speaker of the smartphone has sufficient volume and average quality. But it is worth giving the manufacturer its due - Samsung did not save money, and therefore the earpiece was not combined with the multimedia speaker.

Although the main speaker is located not very well - on the back, that is, the sound will be slightly muffled. It's good that the block with the camera protrudes a little, so you can hear the melody when you call without any problems.

The speaker does not sound very loud, and the quality is average.

The sound in the headphones is acceptable, but I can't say anything special about it. And maybe the volume will not be enough for someone. There is no built-in equalizer for adjusting the sound.

The smartphone supports work in mobile networks 2G, 3G and 4G. Wi-Fi module works fine, does not fall off, but as usually happens in state employees - it is limited to support exclusively for 2.4 GHz networks.

There were no problems with Bluetooth 4.2. GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS) also works fine. NFC module not delivered.

). By the middle of 2013, their number almost reached half, and in terms of equipment, the oldest models with support for two SIM cards are already a stone's throw from the top segment. However, the largest number of offers can still be found in the mid-low price segment. Here, mainly second-tier brands have actively tried, which have filled the segment of UAH 1500-2500 with interesting, but rapidly replacing each other, and from A-brands only Sony does not show much interest in supporting two SIM cards. LG offers its L line smartphones in two versions, differing from each other not only in the number of SIM slots, but also in the shape of the case. HTC at the end of last year released Desire SV , an interesting, but so far the only dualsim model that managed to fall in price to the price category we are interested in. Samsung in the aforementioned segment in 2013 presented as many as three models (and all duos), which more than openly hints at demand. it Galaxy Ace 3 review) and Galaxy Win (review ) with a 4.7-inch display and Galaxy Core ... Something in between in terms of size (4.3-inch display), price and equipment. It is about him that will be discussed in this review.

LG offers its L line smartphones in two versions, differing from each other not only in the number of SIM slots, but also in the shape of the case. Back at the end of last year HTC released Desire SV, an interesting, but so far the only dualsim model that managed to fall in price to the price category we are interested in. Samsung in the aforementioned segment in 2013 presented as many as three models (and all duos), which more than openly hints at demand. These are Galaxy Ace 3 with a screen diagonal of 4 "(review) and Galaxy Win (review) with a 4.7" display and Galaxy Core. Something in between in terms of size (4.3-inch display), price and equipment. It is about him that will be discussed in this review.

Specifications

Like Samsung Galaxy Win, Galaxy Core works out of the box under Android 4.1.2. The model was presented a little earlier than the younger Galaxy ace 3, apparently, that is why I got more early version operating system. Let's hope that the update is not far off, although there is no big grief in Android 4.1, the difference between both versions is small, but the updated TouchWiz for Jelly Bean 4.2.2 turned out to be even more convenient, and some of its functions are no longer enough when returning to the old version. For user data, the smartphone has 8 GB of internal memory, which is atypically good for an inexpensive device. The heart of the smartphone is a dual-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor MSM8225 Snapdragon S4, and the graphics here are Adreno 203. For its price category and for a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels, this solution looks normal and predictable. By the way, according to the characteristics sounded above, the smartphone is identical to the closest competitors LG Optimus L7 II Dual and HTC Desire SV (although the latter costs a little more than both).

Appearance

There is no need to expect surprises from Samsung designers. In the smartphone, the features of the manufacturer are clearly guessed. The case is not compact for its size, but it fits normally in the hand. Still, today a 4.3-inch display is no longer called large. In addition, Samsung was among the first manufacturers of large-screen smartphones to realize that the location of the screen lock button on the right would be more convenient than at the top.

The only surprise for me was the plastic color of the case. We tested the blue Core. It looks fresh, interesting and much cooler than the faceless Chinese Fly or the glossy and, due to this, lurid Prestigio smartphones - that is, smartphones that are presented in the same price range as the Core and also have support for two SIM cards. It seems to me that this is the first time in my history on gg, when I write down the design of the case of a Samsung smartphone in the advantages of the model. The only disappointment is the tendency of both the case and the smartphone screen to collect fingerprints. Well, the case is still inferior to HTC in terms of the nobility of materials, but this age-old topic of plastic versus everything else is already boring once again. In the gallery below - photos appearance Galaxy Core. In several pictures next to him is the Samsung Galaxy Win, the owner of a 4.7-inch display.

It is noteworthy that the use of micro SIM cards has already reached the middle segment Samsung smartphones... In the Galaxy Core, both slots are designed for exactly this format.

Screen

I have a twofold attitude towards the Galaxy Core screen. By today's standards, it is considered grainy - but Samsung's flagship device of 2012, Galaxy S II, had exactly the same screen: 4.3-inch, with a resolution of 480x800 pixels, 217 ppi. Is that the technology was different - for flagship smartphones Samsung uses Super AMOLED displays, for simple models - TFT. This display looks fine even against the background of IPS-displays in Chinese smartphones in the same price range, if you do not take into account the fact that they usually have a higher resolution. In bright sun, the Galaxy Core display feels good and remains readable. For clarity, here is a photo certificate. The picture below shows the Samsung Galaxy Gore, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini on a fine summer day in direct sunlight.

Although, by the way, measurements with our colorimeter showed not the best result: 330.37 cd / m2 is a confident "average".

Device nameBrightness of the white field,
cd / m2
The brightness of the black field,
cd / m2
Contrast
Samsung Galaxy Core I8262 330,37 0,51 654:1
Huawei Ascend Mate 454,76 0.58 791:1
Huawei Ascend D2 310,52 0.30 1037:1
Sony Xperia ZL 394 0.66 596:1
Samsung Galaxy S4 320 0
Sony Xperia T 421 0.28 1503:1
iPhone 4S 434 0.53 818:1

For other indicators (color temperature, color gamut, color accuracy) - the same parsley. The smartphone does not shine, but it demonstrates quite a typical and decent result for the screen inexpensive smartphone... With the "Chinese" it happens both better and worse, once at a time it does not happen. In senior Samsung models there have been better performances with a TFT screen. To our great regret, LG Optimus L7 II Dual and HTC Desire SV visited our editorial office even before the colorimeter appeared in it, so I cannot compare with them.

Performance

As for the performance of the smartphone, we can say that it is approximately on a par with competitors. And with the LG Optimus L7 II Dual, and HTC Desire SV, the difference is small (it is in Samsung's favor) due to a slightly smaller amount of RAM (768 MB per brother) and lowered to 1 GHz clock frequency processor. And with those "Chinese" with a price tag of about UAH 2000, in whose heart a dual-core Mediatek processor MT6577, and the amount of RAM, depending on the display resolution, is 512 MB or 1 GB. Fly has recently had five such models, and other competitors (Prestigio and Highscreen, a Russian brand) are not lagging behind. The performance test results can be seen below.

If we talk about live impressions, then for a person who has this first smartphone or who had other relatively inexpensive devices released a year or two ago, the performance of the Galaxy Core will not seem insufficient. Of course, after using the flagship devices, the slower performance of the Galaxy Core interface is striking. But by and large, everything is quite at the level of the price category, and already a big step forward compared to last year's models. HD video is played on the smartphone, not the most demanding toys are available.

Competitors and neighbors in the line

Now to the question of why in the review I constantly compare the Galaxy Core, the A-brand smartphone, with the "Chinese". The fact is that it is included with the majority of successful models, at least Fly, and as a maximum also Prestigio, in the same price category. Where potential buyers are still price sensitive, sometimes more sensitive than brand.

Therefore, the competitors of this model exactly split into two camps - these are two representatives of the A-brand - LG Optimus L7 II Dual and HTC Desire SV. Although HTC is approaching the price of the Galaxy Win - the older model. In essence, it is close to the Core and L7 II Dual. The same diagonal of the display, approximately the same "filling", but a weaker battery and "antediluvian" Android 4.0. On the other hand, many potential buyers will like the more noble body of the device, and some will prefer the TouchWiz interface to Sense. In addition, LG and HTC smartphones have an 8MP camera, while Samsung has equipped its model with a 5MP one, which is rather slow. And a 2460 mAh battery paired with a reduced processor frequency in the LG Optimus L7 II Dual smartphone can gain an additional few hours autonomous work- this indicator, in my opinion, for the owner of an Android smartphone should be more important than the camera resolution on a non-top smartphone, which in any case will be average.

The second camp is the second-tier manufacturers' smartphones. Here, for the same money, fans of large diagonals can get a real "shovel" Fly IQ451 Vista with a 5-inch HD display and a quad-core processor that demonstrates a different level of performance. Or the 4.5-inch, more pleasant, in my opinion, Fly IQ446 Magic, also equipped with a quad-core processor. In addition to them, of course, there are other models, but they are already less interesting and, in fact, bypasses the Galaxy Core, first of all in the diagonal and display resolution. But the cameras in in this case I would not even take into account that rarely a "Chinese" is ready to boast of a good result in this field (the exception is Huawei Honor 2 and Highscreen Explosion, perhaps). But it should be borne in mind that in real life, the audience is inexpensive Chinese smartphones and smartphones produced by A-brands do not always intersect - the issue of brand trust, habits and status of the manufacturer for some is sharper than megapixels, gigahertz and inches.

The closest relative of the Galaxy Core - Galaxy Ace 3 - differs from it in a more recent version of the OS out of the box (Android 4.2), but with a very small display - 4 inches. For those who are afraid of medium and large diagonals, but are looking for a fresh and inexpensive dualsim smartphone, it will be an excellent choice. Galaxy Win is a branded alternative to the "Chinese", from which it differs for the worse first of all by a low display resolution - the same 480x800 pixels, but already at 4.7-inches. In general, it is quite an adequate smartphone for its price (about UAH 2500).

Samsung Galaxy Core video review

In the dry residue

It turns out that in the price range of UAH 2000-2500, manufacturers of smartphones of the first echelon have demonstrated dualsim models that are very close in technical equipment. The difference between them is so symbolic (LG has better autonomy, Samsung has performance and memory capacity, HTC has body materials, but a weak battery and a high price, Samsung installed a 5-megapixel camera instead of 8 MP) that you can safely choose a specific model guided by personal sympathy for some manufacturer, familiarity of the interface or a question of price. And depending on these preferences, the Samsung Galaxy Core is equally likely to become a desirable or, conversely, an unfortunate choice.

3 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Core I8262:

  • good performance for an A-brand smartphone at this price point;
  • support for two SIM cards;
  • unexpected and interesting body color;

2 reasons not to buy the Samsung Galaxy Core I8262:

  • weak camera;
  • a large number of more "fancy" devices from B-brands in this segment.
