Slim and comfortable LG G FLEX2 - Review of the updated smartphone. Slim and comfortable LG G FLEX2 - Review of the updated smartphone Lg g flex 2 description

Last year around this time, an unusual smartphone LG G Flex was presented with a curved body and the same curved OLED screen. So it's not in vain that we return to this topic, because LG is likely to show the updated smartphone LG G Flex 2. This is confirmed by several leaks, which we will talk about and, in the end, we will definitely already know the characteristics of the device, the approximate release date and price.

There are already quite a few rumors that LG will continue to work on the G Flex line, and @evleaks also confirms this: "The LG G Flex 2 will arrive in Q1 2015 and will have more unique features than self-healing plastic."

If you are interested in this news, then soon you yourself will see new smartphones with curved screens. Yes, smartphones, as the race is still going on between LG and Samsung. Note that Samsung is also working on a curved phone, and this has nothing to do with it. Galaxy Note Edge.

LG G Flex 2 Release Date:

Judging by the information that leaked to the network thanks to evleaks, LG will present the G Flex 2 in the near future at the beginning of 2015, and with several other smartphones at once. So we are waiting for some high-profile announcements.

Specifications LG G Flex 2:

As we have said more than once, the LG G Flex 2 will also be a smartphone with a curved screen, but we are already talking about a 90-degree angle. Such data even baffles us, since it is difficult to imagine a screen curved at right angles. It will be an OLED display with 720p resolution and 245ppi pixel density. The diagonal of such a screen can be 6 inches, which is why the design may surprise you.

Other features of the LG G Flex 2 already relate to hardware specs: Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.26GHz 32GB internal memory, which will be enough to install any applications.

Speaking of the camera, the LG G Flex 2 will have a 13MP main camera, but not a word has been said about the front camera, and it may not even be. There is no specific information on this.

Most surprisingly, the smartphone will also receive a 3500 mAh curved lithium polymer battery.

Now we need to say about those characteristics that are obtained from another source and this time we are talking about completely new specifications. Again Evleaks suggests LG will install Qualcomm processor MSM8994 and it will be the first Android Silver smartphone. This is a Snapdragon 810 processor and it is already 64-bit, so we will definitely not see it before the first quarter. But the screen is already positive data - LG will modify it to a Full HD resolution at least. The smartphone will still support 4G LTE.

Price LG G Flex 2:

It is unlikely that even a preliminary cost of this smartphone will appear in the near future, but if we talk about its predecessor, then the price may be authentic. On the other hand, due to the difficulties in production (design, curved screen), the price will be very high.

We continue to familiarize ourselves with the first commercial device based on the state-of-the-art Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset - LG G Flex 2. At MWC 2015, we were able to experience the unique characteristics of a smartphone in action: a durable curved screen and self-healing plastic back. You can read more about this, but now we'll see what comes with the device in the kit using the Korean version of Flex 2 as an example, how it shows itself during the first setup and in a couple of synthetic tests. For the smartphone provided for acquaintance, we thank the online store Makov.net!

The phone comes on the market in two colors (red and dark gray), but the packaging for them, apparently, is the same. So, the dark device is packed in a bright red box, inside of which you can find a lot of Korean promotional papers, instructions, a cable, a high-speed charging unit and headphones.

The first start-up process is familiar for most Android smartphones, with the only difference that it is initially necessary to change the Korean language to Russian (good Android Lollipop, which Flex 2 runs out of the box, is not without it). During the setup, the device offers to transfer data from the old device, recover from backup Google and select the interface mode - simple (for seniors and those who only need basic functions) or advanced (for ordinary users). Since the phone is Korean, you can find a lot of incomprehensible Korean and operator software in the firmware, which, in general, can be removed without any problems. In the Russian version of the smartphone, such a mess, most likely, will not be, well, or there will be much less third-party software.

Immediately after the first setup, you can notice the rapid heating of the device (in the process of usual study of the menus and settings) and noticeable interface lags. This behavior of the LG G Flex 2 was noted by the first reviewers in the CES exhibitions 2015. Now the phone is already on sale in the Korean market, and soon it will appear in Russia, in connection with which it is quite surprising to observe raw software in a commercial device. Several tests helped to dot the i's.

On AnTuTu latest version the device shows the result slightly higher than the Meizu MX4 (review), but after the first run, a warning pops up about the high temperature of the device and unwanted further testing. Despite this, Flex 2 was passed through AnTuTu two more times and in both cases its maximum results were much lower than the initial ones, bringing the device to the level of the current flagships with Snapdragon 801 of the type Htc one M8 and others. This tells us about throttling, already familiar from LG devices, when a noticeable decrease in performance is observed when a certain temperature is reached. It remains to find out exactly at what temperature - and we found it out.

Running the device through the Stability Test, it was interesting to see the test stop working after just two minutes of activity (we usually test it for 30 minutes) due to errors related to the device overheating. The temperature rose to 41.8 and 42.5 degrees, which, in general, is typical for most flagships, but in other devices such heating does not interrupt testing. From this we can conclude that LG programmatically keeps the heating of the Snapdragon 810 under control and, when a certain temperature is reached, blocks the operation of resource-intensive applications. This can also lead to a reboot of the device, as the AnTuTu test warned us about. The behavior of the Snapdragon 810 chip itself is also questionable. In the tests, only its weak 4 cores are recognized (1.5 GHz each, the strong ones work at 2 GHz), but even they do not work on maximum frequency under high load, instantly dropping it to 960 and 384 MHz. In general, in the case of the LG G Flex 2, we are seeing a very stripped-down version of the Snapdragon 810 chipset with high heat, blocking at a fairly common temperature rise. It is also worth noting that after these tests, a strong plastic smell appeared, and in the absence of any visible traces of overheating.

Introduction

Last year, LG Electronics introduced a serial smartphone with a curved screen (more precisely, a concave one). The name of the new device was given quite logical - Flex - flexible. Of course, the display was not flexible in the literal sense, but it did have a slight move. I can't say that the first Flex was popular, because it had mediocre performance and considerable cost. The only original feature is not a flat screen like most phones. Nevertheless, it produced a wow effect.

At the beginning of 2015, another version of the curved device was shown at CES. Let me remind you that at the time of the announcement, the world had already demonstrated Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. However, there was a curvature in it only on one side of the screen - also a kind of move to prove to everyone that Samsung has similar technologies.

The new G Flex 2 turned out to be much more interesting than its predecessor. Judge for yourself: the new model uses a display with more high resolution and a powerful eight-core processor is installed. In addition, Flex 2 has built one of the best cameras with image stabilization and laser focusing like the LG G3 and G4.

This time, in my personal opinion, LG no longer demonstrates technology for the sake of technology, but simply brings to the market a pumped-up serial gadget with a curved screen. Samsung is doing the same with its Galaxy S6 Edge.

Design, dimensions, controls

If you do not take into account the curvature of the case, then you have a gadget with a fairly modern appearance: minimal frames around the screen, a large display that occupies almost the entire area of the front panel, quality materials etc. Comparing the first Flex and the second, you give preference, of course, to the last one: it looks more interesting, prettier and looks complete, without any unnecessary elements.

As for the curvature, it is not too conspicuous, probably because the body is not as large as that of the old Flex. You can notice the chip only if you put the gadget on a flat horizontal surface and look from the side. The curvature angle is only a few degrees. The difference between the center point of the screen and the ends is approximately 3 mm. The effect is best felt during use, when scrolling the menu up and down. It is rather difficult to describe in words, it is better, as they say, to try once. In any case, it is unusual: it seems as if the image first slides from top to bottom, and then rises again to the bottom edge. In the hand, of course, it lies a little better than any other similar device with a flat back - this is a significant positive point.

The materials have not changed much, there is still plastic, there is no metal. However, they beat him somewhat more spectacularly than in the G Flex. A thin chrome frame, sides are glossy, dark gray, the lid is also glossy and also dark gray. The panel has an unusual pattern - radial waves to the sides, like devices from Asus. The pattern is visible only in the light, in the shadow it seems as if the cover has a gradient from gray to dark gray. As far as I know, there is a device in red. I haven't seen it live, but it looks cool on video and photos.

They say that here, too, a "self-healing" surface is used in the plastic of the rear socket. In practice, even small scratches are noticeable. And in the old "Flex" it was the same. I don’t know why they came up with this marketing thing: downright "tales from the crypt." However, I am more than sure that in the comments the people will write and prove the opposite, they say, on their devices "wounds heal" even from being hit by fragments of a grenade.

I got the impression that a tape was pasted on my sample, but I could not remove it.

The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. There is an oleophobic coating, but even after removing fingerprints, the light bloom is not completely erased. The finger glides over the surface easily, it is pleasant to use.

At the top center there is a slot where the speech speaker is located. Its volume is very high, its timbre is pleasant: there are both low frequencies and well-heard mids with high frequencies.

To the left of the speaker - sensors, front-camera and an indicator of missed events. Under the display there is a logo and an inscription “LG”.

Neither the bottom end is microUSB, a microphone and a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones or a headset. Above - a second microphone and an infrared transmitter (I don't know why it is needed, but let it be "to the heap").

The right and left, as always, are missing elements.

WITH back side: Laser focusing, dual LED flash with warm and cold light, camera, speaker and volume keys with power button in the center.

I don't like this arrangement of buttons at all: I could not get used to it on the LG G2, on the LG G3 and the first Flex. This is a purely personal opinion.

Comparative dimensions:

LG G Flex 2 and LG G3

LG G Flex 2 and Meizu M1 Note

Display

This device uses a 5.5-inch screen. Physical size- 68x121 mm, top frame - 12 mm, bottom - 16 mm, right and left - about 3.5 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating, which is quite effective.

The display resolution of the LG G Flex 2 is FullHD, that is, 1920 × 1080 pixels, the aspect ratio is 16: 9, and the density is 400 pixels per inch. P-OLED matrix without air gap. Despite the high density of dots, if you look closely, you can see the characteristic "pattern" of Pentile.

The maximum brightness of white is 200 cd / m2.

The white line is the goal we are trying to achieve. Yellow line - actual data this screen... You can see that we are directly below the target curve, which means that for every value between 0 and 100, the image is not bright enough. The yellow line is actually the average amount of red, green, and blue.

The average gamma value is 2.40. With an increase in brightness of more than 30%, the gamma deteriorates sharply. Too high a gamma, as in our case, means that the maximum brightness will be higher and we will have deep blacks, but at the expense of loss of detail in dark scenes.

Judging by the level chart, there is a clear excess of blue, while red is lacking.

The temperature changes dramatically depending on the level of brightness: at the minimum brightness, all colors will be with warm shades, at the maximum brightness, they will acquire a colder shade.

Based on the diagram, the resulting data exceeds the sRGB triangle. It is quite strongly shifted to the right upwards.

The viewing angles are maximum, under certain slopes you can see that the picture takes on a greenish-blue tint. Black looks cool on this matrix.

Viewing angles

Spots are visible on a gray background. "In life" they are not visible.

Battery

This model uses non-removable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh.

When working with the device, the battery lasted for about 20-23 hours: about 20-30 minutes of calls a day, about 3-4 hours of using 3G, about 15 hours of Wi-Fi (constant synchronization of mail, Twitter, WhatsApp, Skype, and so on) , several dozen photos, 2 hours of listening to music.

In a more gentle mode (no 3G, music, a little less talk), the gadget works for a day and a half. If you leave only data synchronization (Wi-Fi), then you can count on 3 days. Up to 13 hours of continuous calls.

When auto-adjusting the brightness of the screen backlight, the display works from 3.5 to 5 hours.

Communication capabilities

In this section, in order not to inflate the review, it is worth describing the most important thing: Flex 2 works with LTE CAT 6 networks with integrated LTE 3x20 MHz channel aggregation technology, it has dual-band dual-stream Qualcomm VIVE 2-stream Wi-Fi 802.11n / ac with MU -MIMO (dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot), Bluetooth version 4.1 (A2DP, EDR, LE), NFC chip.

It is easy to connect Flash devices to USB (OTG mode).

LG has GPS (Qualcomm IZat Gen8C) and GLONASS. It functions stably, the speed is very high: even near the window, up to 10 satellites are "visible".

Memory and memory card

With volume random access memory LG has been a little naughty: some sources claim that the 32 GB version costs 3 GB of RAM, while others claim that it is still 2 GB of RAM. We had a sample for 16 GB of Flash memory and 2 GB of "RAM" in our hands.

The official website says that there is only a 32GB Flash and 3GB RAM version. As soon as I find out the exact information from LG representatives, I will add it to the review.

Of the two gigabytes of RAM, usually less than a gigabyte is free. Apparently, the shell "eats up" a lot.

Cameras

This model uses two camera modules: the main 13 MP (F2.4 aperture) with optical image stabilization and the front 2.1 MP (F2.0) module without "stub" and autofocus. There is laser focusing, there is a double flash with a different glow temperature (thus, an accurate rendering of skin tones is achieved).

I won't go into details about the cameras, since Flex 2 borrowed modules from LG G3.

However, I did compare the LG G Flex 2 camera with the LG G3 camera. The result is interesting: the Flex 2 shoots much sharper than the G3. The only thing that sometimes "breaks" is the white balance. On the other hand, G3 often misses the mark.

Below are the shots on the Flex 2 (right) and G3 (left):

Originals with LG G Flex 2:

Originals from LG G3:

If you compare videos, then there is not much difference. Both cameras are good, especially the accurate and very fast focus, even when shooting in low light conditions.

Performance

The LG G Flex 2 is equipped with the latest Qualcomm chipset - Snapdragon 810. Eight cores work here: 4 ARM Cortex A57 cores and 4 ARM Cortex A53 cores with support for a 64-bit platform, 20 nm process technology. Responsible for the graphics Adreno 430.

The first thing manufacturers faced mobile devices, - overheating of the chipset. Perhaps that is why many vendors have refused to use the 810 chip. However, the situation has changed in the new firmware. I tested the LG G Flex 2 and realized that nothing terrible is happening: the maximum temperature under load of the processor reaches 45-50 degrees, which, in general, is quite typical for almost any processor.

Unlike the all-metal HTC One M9, the Flex 2's casing barely gets warm, so users won't have much of a problem.

In general, heating, decreased performance and other unpleasant things can only be seen on various sites; in real life, none of this happens. At least on this device with the same firmware as in "Flex".

The interface works smoothly, games start and everything goes, including GTA SA.

Really the best! There are almost no bugs, despite the dullness of the phone (surprisingly, it is not officially supplied to Russia). The speed and smoothness of the work is impressive. Only new items of this year from leading brands are ahead of it in terms of speed. in Antutu he is gaining 56,000 parrots, and some time ago he highlighted this as the best result at that time! There are almost no preinstalled non-removable programs in it. The battery lasts 1.5 days. In memory - a carriage. The operative system is doing fine, although it is not enough of it. The display is juicy. The shell is gorgeous, almost everything is customizable - very convenient! And most importantly, the design! Gnusmus have rounded corners, everything is rounded here :) After a week you get used to it and you are no longer able to look at other phones! Really attracts attention.

The appearance, the unusual format of the case, the fit of the details is perfect, you can feel some kind of good quality, or something, the control keys with a clear stroke and click, their location on the back cover, oleophobic coating, anti-glare, a decent matrix, ergonomics at a height, firmware 5.1.1, weighty (a plus for me), the hardware is very powerful, and the processor itself is not so powerful (there is more productive on the market), but the Adreno 430 video chip is just 1 in the world, probably, according to past experience, there was Optimus G there Adreno 320 bought it as a novelty to this day I pulled almost everything that I put for a total of 3 years, not a little by today's standards. The camera honestly did not impress me, BUT provided there is good daylight, the photo can be obtained very, no not so, VERY good quality for a smart, Iphone 6, 6+, Galaxy S6 and Lg G4 are much stronger in terms of the camera. High level the backlight of the screen, with the slider turned to a minimum, it is not comfortable to read something at night, it is too bright. Well, the gloss and something like that is not solid.

    Controversial points:
+ - There were complaints about the battery in the reviews - the battery is not the best on the market, but it is comparable to other flagships, some even surpasses. Now all modern smartphones do not last more than a day, so I don’t consider this a disadvantage.
+ - No custom firmwares. This item is only for those who know what it is.
The stock firmware works perfectly, I haven't found a single bug yet.
+ - Lack of official sales. All phones sold in Russia are gray, eurotest. That is, an official guarantee from official service centers for these devices no.
But the shops-sellers still provide their own warranty for a year, so I don't consider this a disadvantage.
Plus, most of the calls to the centers are broken phones, which is not a warranty case, therefore,

The curved shape of the phone gives the LG G FLEX2 a sleek and attractive look. The smartphone is the second model of LG FLEX, although the first variant did not generate much desire to buy it. The company took into account all the mistakes previous version and embodied the desires of consumers in a new model.

LG G FLEX2 Phone - Reviews

The peculiarity of LG G FLEX2 is the curved screen, which gives the phone originality. It is curved at 23 degrees, the model is not straight rival iPhone, of course, but the unusual form will interest sophisticated consumers with technological innovations.

Concerning technical characteristics The curved screen makes the smartphone more comfortable than its straight-screen counterparts. The microphone is positioned closer to the mouth, which makes the voice louder and clearer for the interlocutors.

This model will not be a mass item of everyday use, but the phone will arouse the interest of many potential buyers with its personality. The curved display, at the very least, allows for more simple control sensor.

Another feature of the curved screen is the panoramic video viewing process. At this moment, the feeling of truly complete immersion and personal presence on the shooting site is created.

LG G FLEX2 is not as simple as it seems

The smartphone went through lengthy tests, during which it came into contact with various surfaces and shook in a bag with things. Such actions are familiar to many people, and therefore a modern phone must withstand such loads, while not getting damaged. The phone's screen has a special Gorilla Glass coating, which makes it 20% more durable and more reliable than any other device. The back panel features innovative self-healing scratch-resistant coating technologies.

After two weeks of use, the phone is in perfect condition, like new. There are no scratches on either the front or the back. An entertaining feature - the curved shape allows the phone to fit more conveniently in your pocket than flat counterparts.

But the phone can still be damaged. There is a risk of deeper scratching with the keys, which the self-healing panel will not be able to help. Moreover, some of these scratches can "get complicated", the coating on the sides of the damaged area begins to flake off. With this model, despite all the positive qualities of the coverage, you should be as careful as with any other phone.

Stunning camera

The phone is equipped with a high-quality 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and laser sensor with autofocus. The picture looks rich and clear, which favorably distinguishes the model from its predecessors.

Nice, but with lags

Sometimes there are pauses when opening applications, which determines not the most better performance phone. The model is equipped with a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 processor and 2GB of RAM. The company is aware of the phone's performance issues, so it promised to fix them in updates.

One of the main issues of the technical part of the phone was its heating during operation, because the Snapdragon 810 processor caused a lot of criticism in some publications. The result of long-term work with many applications was the heating of the phone, but within the normal range, fears of failure due to temperature did not materialize.

Functional battery

This, perhaps, is the subject of criticism on most modern phones. The devices have an annoying tendency to turn off at the most inopportune moment. But LG G FLEX2 can be used without recharging for 24 hours, and this is not an approximate figure, but a fact proven in practice.

Even when several applications are running, listening to music and running several games, this time value remains unchanged, in contrast to the declared operating time for most modern models (the company likes to embellish the capabilities of its products, which are not confirmed in practice).

Outcome

LG G FLEX2 is a striking representative of the series, the curved screen makes it thinner and more comfortable than its counterparts. It is not only more pleasant to hold, the smartphone is more comfortable in your pocket and does not take up a lot of space.

Protective front cover and rear panel do not get scratched in the first 5 minutes after purchase, like other phones. But despite all the advantages, developers need to work carefully on software, then the full potential will be revealed this device.

pros

  • Original curved shape.
  • High strength indicators.
  • High quality wide angle camera.
